Pavilion
The second exercise of thesis seminar utilizes the architectural pavilion as a format for architectural speculation, experimentation, and argumentation.
This exercise was paired with two new iterations of our thesis statement, one as a sentence and one at a 150 word max. We had to read these out loud in front of McClain Clutter (yikes 2.0).
size: 16in x 10in ~ 40.6cm x 25.4cm // final media: print // working media: Rhino + Photoshop + Illustrator + inDesign // inspiration: 5am delirium

02.a draft of thesis statement (sentence)
Deschooling through media seeks to disrupt the role of education in the development of systems of control and thought standardization by utilizing media as a lens and a tool to ‘deschool’ an existing school through engagement of intense alteration tactics.
02.b draft of thesis statement (150 words)
Deschooling through media is a study in the ways in which media and digital technologies are dismantling, restructuring, mutating, and revolutionazing spaces of learning, with a specific interest in schools destined for children and teens. The goal of this thesis is to (almost always) understand, (often) assist and (sometimes) limit media’s role in the restructuring of education through the deliberate usage of the ‘stuff’ of architecture. The materialization of this thesis will consist in the intense alteration of an existing school through the utilization of media as a lens and as a crutch tool to simultaneously ‘deschool’ the building while also creating a (hopefully) new typology. Ultimately, this proposal seeks to articulate disrupt the role of the traditional school typology within larger societal systems of educational media, community relations, control (#deleuze+guattari), and standardization of thinking.
This was playing while I read. Worth noting that I also said “brain farts” outloud to McClain. Did I mention that he’s the chair of the architecture program? #facepalm
